Singapore’s premier fashion event Singapore Fashion Week (SFW) makes its highly anticipated return in October this year, allowing designers to showcase their Spring Summer collections which are more relevant to the region’s tropical climate. SFW 2016 also welcomes exciting new collaborations and initiatives such as the acquisition of Digital Fashion Week (DFW), introduction of Singapore Fashion Week Access (SFWA) and the fashion week’s new Official Event Partner, National Gallery Singapore. New endeavours, such as a six-month calendar of events and the Patrons Programme, will roll out to increase interaction and engagement amongst designers, media, fashion industry experts and consumers.
DFW’s online portal, digitalfashionweek.com, will amplify the local and international reach of SFW content, and be the go-to destination for live streaming of SFW runway shows, fashion news reporting, and extensive galleries of runway images.
Singapore Fashion Week Access
SFW unveils a brand new industry-support platform, SFWA. Created in response to industry feedback, SFWA aims to support the Singapore fashion industry by providing more accessible opportunities for designers and businesses to exhibit their collections, in the form of smaller scale, flexible-format fashion presentations. The introduction of varied-format shows echoes the results of a 2016 study conducted by the Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA), a global strategic partner of SFW, and Boston Consulting Group, which confirmed that fashion has to find flexibility in order to tackle the ever-evolving challenges of the industry.
In line with SFW’s increased emphasis on digital efforts, SFW introduces #SGFWSocial, a collective of local and international social media movers and shakers with millions of followers worldwide. #SGFWSocial will encompass influencers from the SFW Ambassadors and DFW Insiders programmes, harnessing their combined global influence to amplify SFW content and campaigns.
SFW is thrilled to welcome National Gallery Singapore as Official Event Partner. The Gallery is a visual arts institution housed in two national monuments in the heart of the Civic District – the former Supreme Court and City Hall – that have been beautifully restored and transformed in recent years. Home to the largest collection of Singapore and Southeast Asian modern art, the introduction of the Gallery as the setting for SFW is a perfect fit as it coincides with SFW’s continued emphasis on local talent support and industry development in Singapore and the region. The venue will see a fresh new format to the shows with a curved runway, moving away from conventional theatre-style seating to provide an exciting new guest experience. The change in format will now accommodate 400 front row seats, treating guests to closer views of the collections on the runway.
