The event Cortez Turns 40 marks Nike’s founding endearment to stylish sports footwear. The celebration has in Southeast Asia with stops at five countries with Singapore at its final stop.
Designed by Bill Bowerman in 1972, the shoe model Nike Cortez has a simple and streamlined aesthetic making it easily identifiable as a symbol of Nike. Not only is the shoe aesthetically appealing, it also serves a utilitarian purpose of absorbing and cushioning shock when running.
Singapore has invited eight talented individuals to design customised Nike Cortez designs which would be stored as part of Nike’s archive. Designers of various backgrounds were- Anne Qi Hui; Marathoner, Ling Wu; Designer, Luthfi Mustafah; Visual Artist, Mriz Sidah; Creative Director, Nicole Chua; Martial Arts Fighter, Sebastian Tay; Sneaker Head, Sheikh Haikel; Rap Artist and Wayne Lee; Head of Zouk Entertainment.
The 8 pairs of customised Nike Cortez shoes will be on display at Limited Edt Chamber B2-23 Canal Level at The Shoppes Marina Bay Sands from now till 15 July 2012. Check them out!
