Premiere of World Runway 2011 Singapore!

An international competition like no other! Representative teams from 8 countries compete for the $100, 000 prize of which half would be donated to charitable causes in aid of FashionQuake Aid to assist countries suffering from natural disasters such as the recent Japan Earthquake.

The show opened with a collaboration of SpunkPunkFunk by local fashion designer Jen Su’s funky street style collection and Ownday label’s spectacles range. Local celebrities Nat Ho and Dawn Yeoh strutted down the runway to the thumping beat of exhilarating music:

Round 1: Street Chic

France kick started the show with a powerful presence of French cultured fashion designs. French 60s chic styles were notably seen on monochromatic combinations, leather gloves and biker jackets, with highlights of fluorescent orange and yellow to keep the outfit playful.

Italy’s team concentrated on creating bohemian vibe looks with loud printed patterns:

The Americans upped the ante by creating loud coloured form fitting dresses which were reinvented to look sleek and head turning.

A spectacular show was seen for Japan! Ornate oriental shimmering silk dresses were matched with biker chic jackets and coats to create a surprisingly fresh street style outfit. The dramatic effect of the models holding huge fans gave the tangible impression of an Oriental culture.

Team UK created glam rock with tight fitting studded dresses and killer heels:

Team Russia’s avant garde nude colour hues collection gave the impression of fairies in a garden with garlands placed on their head. This collection gave a new feminine touch to street chic.

Team Brazil was nothing short of the Brazilian cheerful extroverted spirit of celebration!

Team Singapore was spearheaded by Fashion Designer Jen Su with Derrick Fun, an exciting array of innovative silhouette hugging dresses were showcased in brilliant block colours and prints.

The judges concluded that Singapore, Japan, UK and France are the teams to move on to the next round for the finals. Teams decided on which other team they would like to collaborate with- the result was Singapore with Brazil, Russia with Japan, France with America and UK with Italy.

Singapore with Brazil created a glittering runway show:

Japan with Russia came out with an amazing contemporary oriental collection:

France with America worked the runway with classy work shirts and fitted skirts matched with leggings:

UK with Italy brought out the best of both countries, with well executed embellished dresses:

The winner of World Runway was Team UK! Team Singapore proudly secured 3rd place, effectively placing Singapore on the fashion world map, thanks to Jen Su and team!
