The BLUEPRINT tradeshow from 19 to 20 May 2011, launched the Cruise 2011 / 2012 collections of 105 international and Asian cult designer brands from 15 countries – namely, China, the Dominican Republic, France, Hong Kong, Japan, Korea, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Sweden, Thailand, United Kingdom and the United States. This was a marked increase from 56 labels last year.
The tradeshow attracted 1,699 visitors, including more than 300 members of the media from 163 international, regional and local media outlets. There were also more than 250 buyers from a wide cross-section of international stores, like Le Mill in Mumbai, Triple Major in Beijing and Oki-ni in the United Kingdom. At least 30 per cent of brands wrote orders on-site, with another 40 per cent expecting to do so in the coming weeks.
First-time Singapore brands generated good results and caught the eye of international buyers at their first showing. This included Ling Wu, which was picked up by Shine (Hong Kong), S2 (Perth) and J. Roseroco New York (Seoul); as well as Depression, which secured stockists at Triple Major (Beijing), Deeplay (Taipei) and Board of Trade (Vancouver).
Ms Carolyn Kan who successfully market-tested her jewellery brand Carrie K explains: “Participating in BLUEPRINT Emporium last year was like dipping my toe in the wading pool and BLUEPRINT Trade was diving in the deep end. BLUEPRINT is the must-have starter kit for all designers. It connected me with international media, the right buyers, and fast-tracked my understanding of how to prepare my brand for overseas audiences.”
I am definitely looking forward to next year’s Blueprint event to gain insights from the upcoming movers and shakers of the fashion industry!
